Telegram from the Turkish Minister of Culture

Turkish Minister of Culture

I received this telegram from the Turkish Minister of Culture during the reception at my exhibit at the National Museum of Painting and Sculpture.

The telegram expresses his condolences for not being able to attend the reception. I was not at all surprised.

In October of 2003 I was promised the Arif Hikmet Salonu, the main gallery at the museum. In February of 2004, he promised the same gallery, at the same time, to the French Cultural Alliance IN ANKARA. I traveled across the world. They traveled across the city. The final result? My large exhibit ended up in the small galley upstairs, and the small French exhibit was in the large main gallery.

The Museum staff then proceeded to keep the upstairs gallery locked.
