The post-WWII Abstract Expressionist movement (Pollock, de Kooning) explored non-realistic form and color, a purely emotional response in both artist and viewer. The following movement, Pop Art, (Warhol, Lichtenstein, Raushenberg) was a backlash - depicting common, popular, often mundane images in a precise, mechanical, non-emotional style. These two forms of Art have always been diametrically opposed in the minds of Art teachers and historians, who maintain that they cannot be combined. Not only do I disagree, I have combined them. They need to see this. You need to own it.
