Painter turned poet, playwright, lyricist and singer, Patti Smith released the first Punk single in 1974. In her brief five-year career, she made four albums, wrote five books of poetry and influenced countless musicians, as well as being the first female to successfully claim the rock-musician-as-shaman role previously reserved only for males.
