John Cale

Classically trained musician, theorist and producer, Cale came to America from his native Wales on a Bernstein Scholarship, and played viola in Lou Reed's Velvet Underground in the mid-Sixties, the first use of a Classical instrument in a Rock context. He has since gone on to a brilliant thirty + year career, recording solo and with Brian Eno, Nico, Kevin Ayers and others, and producing such artists as Iggy Pop (with the Stooges), Jonathan Richman (with the Modern Lovers), Patti Smith and Squeeze.
